Education Consulting for Dubai Families Relocating Abroad
Finding the right school in a new country shouldn’t keep you up at night. Our education consultants make school transitions seamless.
The Education Challenge for Relocating Families
You have invested years in your children’s education at one of Dubai’s premium international schools. GEMS, Taaleem, KHDA-rated institutions — your children are settled, their friends are established, and their academic trajectory is on track. The thought of disrupting this is terrifying. It is the single biggest reason families delay their departure from Dubai, sometimes by years.
After Dubai’s education consulting service exists to eliminate this anxiety. We have placed hundreds of children from Dubai schools into international schools across Bali, Thailand, Portugal, Georgia, and Malaysia. We know which schools accept mid-year transfers, which curricula align with which Dubai schools, which institutions have the best support programmes for transitioning students, and which schools consistently deliver the outcomes that matter to Dubai families.
Our approach begins not with school brochures but with understanding your child. Learning style, academic strengths, social needs, extracurricular passions, and any special requirements inform our recommendations. We match children to schools, not families to fee structures.
Our Education Consulting Process
Step 1 — Family Assessment: We conduct a thorough assessment of your children’s educational needs including current curriculum (British, American, IB, Indian, other), academic level and any learning support requirements, extracurricular interests and social development priorities, and your expectations for the educational experience beyond academics.
Step 2 — School Shortlisting: Based on the assessment, we prepare a shortlist of 3-5 schools in your destination that match your child’s profile. Each recommendation includes curriculum details, fee structure, class sizes, teacher qualifications, facilities, extracurricular programmes, and feedback from current parent community members.
Step 3 — Applications and Assessment: We manage the complete application process including form completion, document gathering, assessment scheduling, and communication with admissions teams. For families visiting their destination before relocation, we arrange campus tours and meetings with headteachers.
Step 4 — Transition Support: Once placement is confirmed, we provide transition preparation including curriculum bridging recommendations, language support if needed, social preparation guidance, and first-day logistics. We remain available throughout the first term to address any adjustment challenges.
Schools We Work With
After Dubai has established relationships with leading international schools across all our destination countries. In Bali, we work closely with Green School, Bali Island School, Canggu Community School, Australian Independent School, and several emerging schools serving the growing expat community. In Thailand, our network includes NIST, ISB, and international schools in Chiang Mai and Phuket. In Portugal, we partner with schools across Lisbon and the Algarve offering IB and British curricula.
These relationships mean faster application processing, inside knowledge of admissions criteria, and honest assessments of each school’s strengths and limitations. We do not accept commissions from schools — our recommendations are based entirely on what is best for your child. This independence is fundamental to our service and the reason families trust our guidance.
For families with children at different educational stages, we create coordinated placement strategies ensuring all children are settled in appropriate schools within practical distance of your chosen accommodation. We understand the logistical reality of school runs and ensure our recommendations work for the whole family, not just individual children.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should we start the school application process?
Ideally 3-6 months before your planned relocation date. Popular schools in Bali (particularly Green School) can have waiting lists for certain year groups. Mid-year intake is possible at most schools but September/January starts offer the smoothest transitions. Starting early gives us time to secure your preferred school and backup options.
Will my child lose academic progress by transferring?
No. International schools are designed to accept students from diverse educational backgrounds. Cambridge, IB, and Australian curricula are structured with clear learning outcomes that transcend individual schools. Most Dubai children transition without any academic disruption, and many parents report improved engagement and performance in the new environment’s smaller, more personalised setting.
How much does education consulting cost?
Our initial education consultation is free as part of After Dubai’s relocation advisory. Full education consulting including shortlisting, application management, and transition support is included in our comprehensive relocation packages. Standalone education consulting services are available for families who need school placement assistance only.
School Selection and Enrollment Process
How do international school curricula differ across destinations?
International schools in our five destinations primarily offer IB, British, American, and Australian curricula. In Bali, schools like Green School offer unique environment-focused education alongside traditional IB programs. Thailand has the largest selection with over 200 international schools. Our education consultants evaluate each child academic profile, learning style, and extracurricular interests to recommend schools that optimize both academic outcomes and personal development.
What is the typical school enrollment timeline?
School enrollment timelines vary by destination and school popularity. Top-tier schools in Bali often have waitlists for mid-year entry, so we recommend beginning the application process three to six months before your planned move. Our education team manages the complete enrollment process.

School Enrollment Timeline: From Application to First Day
Understanding the enrollment timeline helps you coordinate school selection with relocation scheduling. Different schools have different application cycles and processing requirements.
Pre-Arrival Phase (4-8 weeks before relocation)
Initial school research and inquiry: identify 3-5 schools matching your curriculum/location preferences. Request school prospectuses and admission information online. Schedule virtual tours and parent information sessions (most schools offer these remotely). Submit initial inquiry expressing interest and sharing child’s background, grade level, and special needs if any.
Pre-Arrival Phase Continued (2-4 weeks before)
Submit formal application forms (typically 5-10 pages with family background, educational history, and child interests). Include supporting documents: previous school transcripts, standardized test scores if available (WISC, WRAT, etc.), and teacher recommendations. Pay non-refundable application fee ($100-200 USD). Schools begin initial document review and may conduct phone/video interviews.
Arrival Phase (First 1-3 days)
In-person school tours arranged. Child meets with school leadership and counselors. Entrance assessment conducted (typically 2-3 hours, testing reading, math, reasoning, and language). Parents attend parent information session and learning methodology orientation.
Enrollment Phase (Days 4-7)
Assessment results reviewed and enrollment offer made (or alternative placement suggested). Parents meet with learning coordinator to discuss child’s needs and curriculum customization. Enrollment contract signed and deposit paid (typically $1,000-3,000 USD, applied to tuition). Start date scheduled, uniform ordered, school materials list provided.
Settlement Phase (Days 8-14)
Uniforms and school materials purchased and delivered. Child visits school campus with parent for familiarization (meeting teacher, seeing classroom, meeting classmates). First full day of school scheduled. Parent orientation sessions covering curriculum, assessment methods, discipline policies, and communication expectations.
Tuition Comparison & Total Cost of Schooling

Annual Tuition by School Category
Premium IB Schools (Green School, BISC, Bali High): $18,000-28,000 USD annually. Includes advanced facilities, extensive extracurricular programs, experienced international faculty. Premium locations (Canggu, Seminyak). Higher tuition reflects infrastructure investment and university placement support.
Mid-Range Cambridge/American Schools (Bali Mandira, ISB): $12,000-18,000 USD annually. Established curriculum, competent faculty, solid extracurricular offerings. Good balance of academic rigor and affordability. Serve diverse expat community.
Value-Oriented Schools (Montessori, smaller international schools): $6,000-12,000 USD annually. Alternative pedagogies, smaller class sizes, strong community focus. Less extensive extracurricular programs but personalized attention.
Additional Costs Beyond Tuition
Registration/Application fee: $100-300 USD (non-refundable). Enrollment deposit: $1,000-3,000 USD (applied to first month tuition). Uniforms and school supplies: $400-800 USD initial, $200-300 annually. Technology fees and digital platforms: $200-500 USD annually. Extracurricular activities (sports, music, art clubs): $100-300 USD monthly. School trips and field excursions: $50-200 USD monthly depending on activity calendar.
